Sleeping HELP!
Some Healthpoint Hints to help your baby sleep through the night!
At two months old your baby should be more alert and social so therefore should be spending more time awake in the day. This hopefully would mean she would be more tired during the night when no one is there to entertain her, therefore skipping one of the night feeds and sleeping from around 10pm till morning light. By 3 months some babies are sleeping through the night at least 7 or 8 hours straight. If this is not happening it may be worth your while keeping them awake longer in the afternoon and into the evening. It is a good time for Dad and brothers and sisters to take over with some active play at this time. It is also a good thing if breast feeding to increase the amount of time you nurse her before bedtime so she is not waking up early because she is hungry. Dark curtains in her room also help her to sleep in a little longer in the morning. We hope this information may help you to have a better nights sleep.

Child's First Teeth
A child’s first teeth are important for a number of reasons. Firstly they are needed for chewing and speaking and more importantly they are needed to keep spaces for the permanent teeth. Permanent teeth are more likely to grow into their correct position if the first teeth are well looked after. First teeth however are more vulnerable to decay as the enamel is thinner than that of permanent teeth.
Initially a parent should clean the child’s teeth until the child is old enough to do this itself. The teeth should be wiped clean every day with a damp cloth. Once the child is a little older a soft bristled infant’s toothbrush should be used to gently brush all tooth surfaces.
Toothpaste should not be used until after twelve months old.
As children will swallow their toothpaste it is recommended that Colgate Junior toothpaste be used as it is low in fluoride. Excess Fluoride can discolour permanent teeth.
A parent should continue to brush their child’s teeth once a day until they are approximately six years old. It has been found that a child does not have the skill to brush properly until this age. It is important to let them attempt to brush themselves and using disclosing tablets is a good way to check if they are brushing correctly. Disclosing tablets contain an approved food dye that stains the plaque so a child is able to see where they have missed. This is a fun way to teach a child to brush thoroughly.
